Should you be taking probiotics to boost your “good” gut bacteria?

We’ve all heard there’s “good” and “bad” gut bacteria, but it turns out bacteria are a little more complicated than those Inner Health Plus ads have led us to believe. Some bacteria can be harmful, some can be beneficial, some can be both, and some can have no impact at all. While our relationship with gut bacteria can be complicated, one thing we do know is that most people don’t need to take probiotic supplements. Unless you’re currently taking antibiotics, have irritable bowel syndrome, or have a compromised gut microbiome, probiotics aren’t likely to benefit you at all.
