Are the health apps on your phone sharing your data?

Recent investigations, including a report from the Wall Street Journal (covered here by the ABC), have shown that many health apps are sharing your personal information with other entities. A recent study by the University of Sydney revealed that 79% of surveyed health apps share user data with parent companies such as Amazon, Alphabet (Google’s parent company), and Microsoft, as well as multinational technology companies, digital advertising companies, and telecommunications corporations. So, before you download an app to track your health data, make sure you know who else might be seeing your information.
